BCG’s Knowledge Team (KT) is the bridge between consulting and functional and industry experience. We are the experts that deliver cutting-edge insights to our consulting teams and clients, enabling them to deepen our capabilities and deliver innovative and impactful solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing businesses today.
Depending on your skills and interests, you’ll either join the Client Focus path or the Topic Activation path. The roles are similar but involve a different proportional mix of client work, business development, and thought leadership development, and both make for an exciting and dynamic career.
Nowhere else can you share a seat at the table with fellow world-class experts while taking on such a broad range of challenges across industries for leading businesses. The variety of work and the opportunity to grow your expertise while making a real-world impact with our teams will allow you to unlock your true potential.
Our Knowledge Team has a strong reputation that sets you up for success. In your role, you’ll gain the experience to springboard your career within BCG, from leading Practice Areas to other opportunities like our Expert Consulting path.
Client Focus KT
On the Client Focus path, you’ll bring insights and expertise to our case teams. As an expert in your industry or function, you’ll partner with our clients on casework, and equip our consulting teams with the knowledge they need to create solutions tailored to our clients’ needs.
On the Topic Activation path, you’ll build out our portfolio of industry-leading insights. Harnessing your deep functional or industry expertise, you’ll create advanced and innovative intellectual property, tools, processes, and content, as well as contribute to client casework and proposals.

OneDay@BCG, our interactive virtual experience program, will give you insight into what it would be like to solve meaningful challenges with our diverse and forward-thinking team.
Different from the Generalist Consulting path, the Knowledge Team (KT) is a global business comprised of subject matter experts across a variety of topics and industries. Our KT members bring industry and topic expertise to our consulting teams and clients. While KT partners with our consulting teams on casework, they also dedicate time to the development of intellectual property, content, and materials for their topic or sector.
No two days on the Knowledge Team are ever the same! Your time will be spent on a variety of cases and projects. While some days may be dedicated to applying industry or topic expertise to client cases, others may be spent developing tools, creating content, or partnering with leaders on strategic projects.
Travel expectations will vary and are dependent upon which KT career path you are aligned with, the location of your client engagements, and the level of your role. With our Topic Activation path, you are occasionally staffed on casework and travel expectations are more consistent and predictable. With our Client Focus path, you will be primarily staffed on longer-term cases and there may be more travel expectations.
KT hiring teams consider many different types of profiles and skillsets for KT opportunities. Some of the main skillsets that would make someone in KT successful are impressive problem-solving skills, strong relationship-building abilities, excellent communication, and possessing valuable industry or topic expertise to add immediate value to casework and projects. In addition, those who have found success in their role tend to have an entrepreneurial mindset, are self-driven, and possess the ability to actively build their personal brand and network.
After your initial HR interview, there are two main rounds. The first round focuses on learning more about your capabilities with a case study interview and an indudstry/functional expertise interview. The second round is customized to test your competencies in further depth and you will have the opportunity to meet a diverse range of team members within BCG.
