No, definitely not. All our consultants work on the same topics and projects, regardless of their degree. While your unique subject-matter expertise may influence project selection, the door to opportunity is wide open. Once you’re part of a case team, we work with you to find the role that best fits your profile.
Don’t worry
– we don’t require prior consulting experience. Instead, we look for strong academic performance, relevant field experience, and international exposure. Everything else is taught through intensive training and stage-specific development programs.
The best approach is to schedule enaugh time for practice. There are excellent websites and books available to help you prepare, and you’ll also have the opportunity to practice solving cases through our CaseCoach platform. You'll receive access to CaseCoach once you’ve been invited to the first round of interviews.
We also highly recommend practicing with other applicants, friends, or classmates and giving each other feedback.
You don’t need to prepare in advance. All candidates without a business degree participate in a special ’’Consulting Essentials Training’’ before starting their first project. In this training, you’ll learn essential business fundamentals such as cost accounting and balance sheet analysis.
You’ll also take part in various skills trainings to help you present more confidently and learn how to successfully collaborate with our clients.
If you join us without any prior work experience, you’ll start as a generalist, not assigned to a specific practice area. However, you shape your own path. You can express your interests and preferences to our staffing team, allowing you to develop your individual career focus at BCG.
