Beyond Expectation
People often perceive consulting as purely rational, focused on data, analysis, logic, and models. However, as I grew along my career path, I gradually realized that the business world is fundamentally shaped by real people who have complex feelings and emotions. Thus, "perception" "empathy" and "influence" are equally crucial, which females are naturally blessed with. With perception, we can deep dive into stakeholders' underlying needs through small signals.
With empathy, we can find more balanced solutions in clients’ shoes. With influence, we can build trust through humane communication and push for better transformation. What stands out in projects are not just analyses but genuine interactions with clients, shared laughter, and mutual trust, highlighting the true value beyond numbers and reports. This amazing balanced mix of rationality and emotion, authenticity and sincerity, is essential in both work and life.
Beyond Growth
As an engineering Ph.D. in hydraulic engineering, transitioning to business at BCG was a significant concern, unsure how my research skills would translate to consulting. My first project involved improving operational efficiency for an early childhood education company, where I applied my operations research expertise to develop an optimization tool for resource management.
This experience revealed the value of my academic training in addressing real business problems. Over Four years, I leveraged my Ph.D. - honed skills in logic and data analysis to tackle diverse industry challenges, expanding my business knowledge and discovering that growth extends far beyond academics.
