We welcome applicants from all academic backgrounds – whether with a university or applied sciences degree – and who have already gained professional experience. If that experience comes from the business world, fantastic. If not, that’s perfectly fine. What matters most is that you possess strong analytical capabilities and excellent communication skills. Your entry path depends on your background and aspirations – whether you want to further specialize in a specific industry or function, or gain experience across a broad range of project areas.
You can join BCG either as an expert or a generalist, entirely based on your personal goals. We’ll support you in shaping your path. Regardless of your choice, your first weeks at BCG include 2 - 6 weeks of training (depending on your experience), followed by what we call “shadowing.” This simply means you accompany a highly experienced colleague on a project, learn from them, and get fully settled into BCG. After that, you’ll take on your first case independently.
Our goal is to support your development in the best possible way. That’s why we offer personalized training and mentoring from day one. We take your previous experience into account and work with you – and your mentor – to identify what matters most for your growth. Together, we define the pace and priorities that fit your background and ambitions.

Because varied experiences and perspectives lead to the best solutions. Your personal background is an important part of our interview process, which is why you’ll speak with representatives from the practice area most relevant to your profile – whether your experience is broad or highly specialized. We clarify all of this together in advance.
At BCG, we support your career development from day one. Through our structured Career Development system, you meet regularly with a dedicated contact person who works with you to plan your growth and next steps. In addition, your mentor and your “buddy” are there to guide and support you in all aspects of your journey – professionally and personally.
Absolutely. You’re welcome to apply directly to the practice area that aligns with your background. We’ll then work with you to determine the best fit. For example, if you have 1 - 4 years of broad and varied experience, you’ll typically join us as a generalist and won’t be assigned to a specific practice area right away. If you bring highly specialized expertise and more than four years of professional experience, you will likely start directly within the relevant practice area. Here, as well, you define your path – whether you aim to diversify or deepen your specialization.
Your entry level depends entirely on your experience and background. As a guideline: with 1 - 4 years of professional experience, you typically join as an Associate or Consultant. With more than four years of experience, you will likely enter as a Consultant or Project Leader. We evaluate your profile carefully to ensure the role aligns with your expertise and expectations.
One of the advantages of project-based work is its built-in flexibility. For example, you can take a break between projects without missing out, ensuring no career setbacks and a smooth return to your role at any time. In addition, BCG offers dedicated programs for parents, specifically designed to support the realities of consulting life. Alongside various part-time models, we provide additional resources to help you balance family and career.
Digital is at the core of our work. At BCG, we tackle some of the most important digital challenges of our time – from strategy to full implementation. We collaborate closely with our expert entities such as BCG X, BCG Digital Ventures, and BCG Platinion.
