From the Basketball Court to BCG

Everyone who plays basketball growing up dreams of going pro. Shooting baskets in the driveway or local gym, envisioning you're a superstar sinking buzzerbeater shots — every kid has been there. I was no different, except that I have been fortunate enough to live out this dream and play professional basketball for a first division Polish team.

A Lifelong Baller

Basketball has always been a part of my life. I started playing when I was 10 years old, practicing every day to work on my shot and challenging myself to get better. Sports—especially basketball—are the reason I am who I am. I learned confidence, responsibility, loyalty, to be bold and take risks, to be the leader and part of the team at the same time, and much more! The lessons I've learned on the court have transcended into all aspects of my professional and personal life.

I went pro when I was 16 while studying at university in Europe, singing a contact with a team in the Polish First League. It was a dream-come-true experience and has been my life's greatest adventure. Practicing twice a day, that moment when I first entered the court and scored and people screamed my name, the experience of playing against WNBA stars who had been my idols forever, the interviews, the fans, and the team, all of it will stay with me forever. The basketball court is my favorite place on earth. Although I don't play pro anymore, the sport is there with me every single day; it is part of me.

Finding a Passion for Fashion

After playing for over 15 years, I decided it was time to pursue other passions. I graduated with degrees in economics and management before entering the business world, helping a number of companies with market strategy. In 2004, I joined BCG as an Associate in our Consumer practice, eager to begin my next chapter.

As a Project Leader, I work mostly in the fashion and retail industry with some of the top apparel companies in the world. This enables me not only to travel a lot but also focus on fashion, something I love. Working with top global fashion companies, helping to shape the industry, and collaborating with inspiring people is definitely exciting and fascinating.

Fashion has quickly become my second passion. It's not about clothes, bags, and shoes. It's about what is behind all that—making a statement about who you are. As Karl Lagerfeld said, "I am a fashion person, and fashion is not only about clothes—it's about all kinds of change." This is what BCG is also all about. I am fascinated by inspiring people, their statements, who they are, and what they create. Fashion shows, new collections, designers, stylists, I live it and love it!

People are often surprised when they hear that this woman who wears very high heels played professional basketball. Men always try to challenge me and, well, it doesn't work well for them! I used to be exceptionally talented at three-pointers. It's satisfying to have these two equally meaningful parts of my authentic self-shine through at work.

While my professional career has filled the void that basketball once did, I haven't had to compromise or give up the things I love, which still include sports. I love competition, adrenaline, challenging myself, and pushing the limits—things that carry over into my role at BCG. Sports will always be my biggest passion and driver, and I'm grateful that BCG allows me the balance to pursue the things I love.

My Next Chapter

The competitor in me knows I will continue to push myself in all that I do, and my career at BCG is no different. When I joined BCG I always had one goal in my mind: to become a Manager Director and Partner. And this is still one of my goals.

My advice to other aspiring women—in sports, fashion, business, wherever—is to be bold. Trust your instincts and follow your dreams. In the end, it is all about knowing what you want and going after it. Also make sure to dedicate significant time for your family, friends, and passions! Travel, see the world and try new things—they make you grow and change.
